As part of the industrial design course at BHSAD, I was tasked with creating any piece of furniture in the biomorphism genre. Given my fondness for that aesthetic, I approached the assignment with great enthusiasm. I chose a bookshelf as the object, as it provided a wide space for creative solutions due to minimal ergonomic constraints. I drew inspiration from the natural pattern of branching, prevalent in almost all living organisms.
The material for the product is laminated chipboard. As part of the project, I crafted a highly accurate prototype of the shelf for exhibition using 10 plywood profiles secured with dowels and wrapped with a sheet of matte plastic, affixed with thermoglue.
I chose black and white as the recommended colors for manufacturing, as they allow for a perception of the complex form without distractions from additional meanings that chromatic colors might introduce.
The shelf seamlessly integrates into modern minimalist and austere interiors, visually activating empty spaces.
